Poker Industry PRO: Tribal Opposition Continues to Prevent Regulated Online Poker in California

Law and Regulation: Six tribes have sent Assemblyman Jones-Sawyer a letter opposing his AB167 bill.

The political divisions which have hampered the passage of a bill to introduce state regulated online poker in California have again been exposed after six Californian tribes sent a letter opposing the latest proposals.

Assemblyman Reginald Jones-Sawyer’s AB167 bill is opposed by the tribes because it would permit licensed racetracks to apply for online poker licenses, and it does not include strong provisions to keep PokerStars out of the market—no “bad actor” or “tainted asset” clauses are included in the proposed legislation.
